Destacán producción de energía limpia en hidroéléctrica Itaipú

Asunción, 10 nov (Prensa Latina) María Antonia Gwynn, member of the Consejo de Administración de la hidroeléctrica binacional Itaipú, highlighted the impulse of this company in the production of energy clean and renewable, trascendió today.

Gwynn participated in Egypt in a conference on sustainable solutions for water and energy through innovation and the use of modern technologies, developed in the context of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( COP27), in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh, published La Nación.

The expert presented the binacional actions that contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement of 2015 to limit the average increase in global temperature to two degrees centigrade -respecting the preindustrial levels- and redoblar efforts to not exceed the quota of 1, 5 degrees.

In this sense, Gwynn mentioned the use of renewable sources of energy, even in extreme climatic events, and environmental protection strategies, such as reforestation and biodiversity preservation.

Meanwhile, Sergio Méndez, climatólogo de la división de embalse de Itaipú, detalló en el escenario egyptio las operaciones de monitoreo ambiental executadas en la entity, como el analísi y ​​seguirio del clima, la calidad del agua y de la ictiofauna.

Méndez considered that this work is vital to realize adequate forecasts and implement the necessary initiatives of mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

In this way, he said, it is possible to increase the useful life of the reservoir and preserve the natural resources of the region.

La hidroeléctrica Itaipú is located in the river Paraná, in the border section between Brazil and Paraguay.
