George Salas Arenas, chairman of Peru’s National Electoral Arbitration Council (JNE), said the final results of this Wednesday’s presidential election would be announced after resolving challenges to election records.

Salas Arenas stressed that JNE officials are working to advance the final results, adding, “Our work is subject to the law and we act with impartiality and transparency.”
“We must not provoke further divisions, we must rebuild the relations of unity, we must seek consensus for the good of the country, we are a great nation, not two nations, one, we deserve it,” Salas Arenas urged the citizens.

The JNE leader stressed that the appeals of the observed election records would be resolved, however he pointed out that there may be at least 80 appeals in this body, adding that “it is important that the faction does not continue to be a part of our country’s agenda”.
According to JNE, the State Council of Peru urged the public sector to remain calm and avoid conflicts, saying “speeches that incite hatred among adults do not contribute to social peace or strengthen democratic values.”
The National Electoral Processes Office (ONPE) outlines that after 100 percent of the ballot papers, the Peruvian librarian, Point Pedro Castillo, will win the presidential election with 50.12 percent, equivalent to 8,835,579 votes.
For his part, Keiko Fujimori, the far-right candidate for Fursa Popular, remained with 49.87 percent, equivalent to 8,791,521 votes.
