Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is delaying its Parent & Grandmothers Plan (PGP) 2020 Immigration Lottery until early 2021.
The lottery is scheduled to take place by the end of this month, but several factors, including the global corona virus outbreak, will cause the delay.
IRCC has opened the PGP 2020 interest window for potential sponsors from October 13 to November 3, 2020.
Then, the IRCC will hold a random lottery inviting 10,000 sponsors to submit their PGP applications.
As currently mentioned IRCC website, The department expects to hold the lottery by the end of this year: “Sponsors will be invited to apply by the end of the year, so we expect to receive applications by the beginning of 2021 (January and February).”
IRCC explains the reasons for the delay
In response to the email CIC News, The IRCC explained that the delay in holding the lottery was due to several factors:
We are currently working through this year’s submissions to remove duplicates, and we will create a random list and begin sending out invitations to apply. Because this year the program opened more than usual, and due to circumstances beyond our control such as a global epidemic, potential sponsors will be invited to apply in early 2021. We are updating our website to reflect this.
What to expect from parents and grandparents plan in 2021
It is set to be a key feature for the BJP next year. After the PGP 2020 lottery, invited sponsors will have up to 60 days to submit their applications to the IRCC.
IGCC has already announced that the PGP 2021 window will be tripled from this year’s edition.
The IRCC will open a new edition of the interest window and then invite 30,000 sponsors under next year’s program.
Beyond the PGP, Canadian citizens and permanent residents can use it Super Visa Program Bringing their parents and grandparents to Canada on renewable visas valid for up to 10 years.
