Second round of presidential election begins in Chile ›World› Granma

About 15 million Chileans have been called to the referendum to choose between two opposing models, represented by Deputy Gabriel Borick from the left-wing Abrew Dignity Coalition and Jose Antonio Cast, proposed by the far-right Christian Community Front coalition.
According to Prensa Latina, polling stations began receiving citizens at 08:00 (local time) and remained open until 18:00, during which time voters waited inside or outside the premises to exercise their voting right.
A total of 46,888 polling stations have been set up in various parts of the country, adding a further 249 polling stations approved for expatriates, where polling began the previous day.
According to Andres Tagley, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electoral Service (Surveillance), the Latin American news agency says the process should be more fluid, as there are only two options, unlike the first round on November 21.
On that occasion, there were seven candidates for the presidency and representatives were elected, with almost half of the senators, governors and local councilors making long and late queues at the polls.
Tagley assured that the first results would be released at 6:30 pm and that if the difference between the two candidates was very small, a trend would already be known in an hour and a half, PL adds.
The uniqueness of Chile’s elections is that the turnout was voluntary and the turnout in the initial round reached 53%, which is expected to be reduced this Sunday.
