The Army says it has not seen the Master Sailor from HMCS Winnipeg

The Canadian military says a search is underway in the sea west of San Francisco for a missing master sailor.

Duan Earl is believed to have accidentally crashed into the HMCS Winnipeg early Monday morning, National Security said in a statement Tuesday.

The ship was returning to Eskimalt in BC after being shipped to the Asia-Pacific region.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Center in California, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the U.S. Coast Guard are assisting in the search.

The report said that the Canadian Armed Forces would investigate the circumstances of Erley’s disappearance.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones of our missing shipmate Master Sailor Duan Earlin,” Vice Admiral Art McDonald, commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, said in a statement. “It’s very close to the end of this deployment, and as the holiday season approaches, it is simply devastating, and it is felt in our extended Navy family.”
