Vancouver is the first manufacturing company in Canada to use ‘extended reality’ technology

Vancouver – A Vancouver manufacturing company is gearing up for a busy 2021, becoming the first company in Canada to use the first new technology.

Promosa Management Inc. typically hosts large live events, and a section of its business uses LED lighting panels to create effects for the audience. When COVID-19 struck the epidemic, it sought to highlight business strikes and other initiatives.

“In May, we proposed to the provincial government to facilitate the drive; it was turned down,” said CEO Baxter Wilson. It was denied. “

Without other work, nothing was done for the team, and the equipment was left unused.

“We had to look at our business hard and figure out what we could and could not do,” Wilson said.

He started “Extended Reality” in a studio space in partnership with a company called Disciples in the UK, and Promosa became the first company in Canada to do so.

Jason Kirby is the Production Leader at Super Bonfire, a local company that creates digital media content. He has been working with Wilson on new technology, and it creates an amazing experience that looks like a live green screen, except for the pre-shoot effects.

“Basically we prepare that content in advance, so the talent is really immersed in that environment and the real light from the LED surface reacts to them in real time,” Kirby said.

All of this requires a large amount of processing power. Kirby says brand new servers are coming in the new year.

“It requires an incredibly powerful rear end to do those things, which is really the lead technology,” he said.

Wilson says having to stop production for most of 2020 has become a blessing in disguise, giving the company time and manpower to focus on developing this next phase.

“Before COVID, we were running at about 150 percent, so we didn’t really have time to bring it to the finish line,” he said.

Kirby agrees.

“It was a perfect storm of event production companies, basically the LED tiles could not go out, and then you’d got a few geniuses, basically trying to figure out how to come up with solutions. Do something else.” I don’t think so. “
